This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministry. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.
You Can Preach (Advanced Course) - Presenters: Nancy Mead (Pastor at First UMC, Alamosa) and Calob Rundell (Pastor at Salida UMC)
Book: Go Preach! A primer for Beginning Preachers by John P Gilbert
This course is designed for those who are called to preach but have not had formal preaching training. “It is not the end of the road preaching, but a tentative first step. It is a primer, a basic nuts-and-bolts beginning” look at preaching. This course is an approved course for the “Preaching” requirement for Lay Speaker certification.
6:00 p.m. Friday - Check-in, open, introductions and instructions. Please have dinner before arriving. Snacks will be available.
6:15 p.m. - Class sessions begin
Recess Friday evening to be determined by course presenters.
8:00 a.m. Saturday - Class sessions resume. Please have breakfast before arriving. Snacks will be provided.
Times for breaks, lunch (provided), and closing worship & certificate presentations will be determined by course presenters and participants, assuring that 10 hours of training are met and all curriculum is covered.
Cost: No Charge. A "Love Offering" will be taken to cover snacks, lunch, & expenses.
Participants are also asked to obtain their own book (available from Cokesbury, Amazon and other sources). Please order well in advance (3 weeks or more) of the course dates to allow time for delivery and review.
