“Loving God by loving others” is an important way of life for First United Methodist Church of Boulder (FUMC).
This church has been loving others by being a Reconciling Ministries congregation for 20 years, and we will celebrate this significant anniversary on Sunday, March 5, during our 10:30 a.m. worship service.
Reconciling Ministries congregations in the United Methodist Church are churches working to transform the Methodist Church and the world at large into the full expression of Christ’s inclusive love, and affirming that absolutely ALL of us are beloved children of God including persons of all sexual orientations and gender identifications. FUMC has been a proud Reconciling Ministries congregation for 20 years!
Rev. Matthias Krier,
our pastor, says that “this congregation truly exemplifies the United Methodist motto of Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors,
and is working to fulfill the mission of the church by making disciples of all people for the transformation of the world.”
Bishop Karen Oliveto
will join the celebration as our guest preacher. Oliveto is the first openly gay person to be elected Bishop in the United Methodist Church; she was elected by the Western Jurisdiction in July 2016. The Western Jurisdiction has challenged the United Methodist Church to change its policy of excluding gay persons from serving in the church. Oliveto was serving at Glide Memorial United Methodist Church in San Francisco when she was elected. Glide has one of the largest memberships in the United Methodist Church, and welcomes persons of all walks of life, serves those who are oppressed, and has a large LGBTQ membership.
Before worship on March 5, there will be an Adult Forum discussion at 9:00 am in the church parlor
recalling the story of how FUMC became a Reconciling Ministries congregation back in 1997. The 20th anniversary worship celebration will begin at 10:30 am, and Boulder’s own Resonance Women’s Chorus
will sing several selections during the service. Resonance welcomes all women to audition, and emphasizes songs of social awareness; their music director is Sue Coffee. A special reception for everyone will follow the worship service.
Please join us for this significant and celebratory day. As always, absolutely EVERYONE is welcome.
