What is transitional ministry with small churches?

This ministry comes alongside small churches, assisting them to right-size themselves to the resources, commitment and passions they have. Forty percent of all the churches in Rocky Mtn. Conference and sixty five percent of the churches in Yellowstone Conference are worshipping, on average, less than fifty. The Transitional Ministry Developer, in partnership with others, offers consultation, teaching, coaching and administration around congregations moving to being lay led, congregations merging, church closings or those developing other models of vital small church ministry

What kinds of situations might these small congregations be in?

  1. Claiming the current strengths and ministries of small churches – alone and in partnership. How can we do more than survive?   What does it take to be a lay led church when regular pastoral supply is not possible?  What other models for small church ministry are there?
  2. The past is past, and we are ready to be bold, personally committed and take new initiatives. We are ready for change, and have the energy and faith commitment to do so, now what?
  3. Process for disbanding a congregation & disposition of property. We have reached the end of our resources and people for what is necessary to continue as a congregation, now what?
