The Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministries has awarded four recipients the 2016 Marion Reid Scholarships for Women. Marion Reid was active in the Rocky Mountain Conference of The United Methodist Church and her desire was to assist fellow United Methodist women wishing to further their education. We are grateful for her legacy of service to the church and her gift of funds for these scholarships.

The following students each received a $2,500 award:
  • Eleanor Burns is pursuing a degree in Music Education at the University of Wyoming. She has been a lifelong United Methodist and currently serves as the president of the Wesley Foundation in Laramie. Eleanor is passionate about teaching and music and hopes to teach in a middle school in Colorado.
  • Mina Nau is working toward a Master's of Divinity degree at Iliff School of Theology and is preparing to be ordained in the United Methodist Church.  She has also been a member of the UMC her whole life, most recently at Tongan UMC in Utah and Park Hill UMC in Denver.
  • Rachael Palmer is pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Utah. She has served as secretary for the Conference Council on Youth Ministries and is a founder and leader in a new campus ministry, Holy Grounds, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • Debra Stinnett is also a student at Iliff School of Theology, pursuing a Master's of Social Justice and Ethics. She plans to serve as an advocate for the poor, oppressed, and marginalized peoples. She has been active in the UMC in both Colorado and Tennessee, currently working with her husband at Pierce UMC in Colorado.
The Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministries received 39 applications from all parts of the Rocky Mountain Conference. We are blessed to have an amazing number of bright, passionate women involved in our church and conference. The Board encourages everyone to watch for details for the 2017 scholarship awards next spring.
