New Places for New People
A Call from Bishop Elaine for the funding of New Local Church projects in the Rocky Mountain Conference.
Bishop Elaine Stanovsky invites you and your congregation to fulfill our call to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ by partnering with your sisters and brothers throughout Utah, Colorado and Wyoming to New Places for New People.
This campaign will enable our conference to grow, by sharing the vibrant, loving news of our faith to people
throughout the Rocky Mountain Conference region. We are all enriched and blessed by these efforts: both the new communities and existing congregations.

A Vision for New Church Development in The Rocky Mountain Conference
What is a New Local Church?
A New Local Church is a new faith community that is designed to serve people who are currently not active in the United Methodist Church (UMC) and have the potential to create a new independent self-sustaining UMC within the Rocky Mountain Conference (RMC). There is a time frame of 6 years following inception.
What are Assessments?
Assessments are studies to assess potential opportunities for New Local Church development. Assessments include demographics, initial organization, community needs, etc. Grants of up to $5,000 over a three year period are available. Talk to a District Superintendent or a committee member for an application form.
What Counseling is Available?
The New Church Development Committee has identified and uses several consultants to provide counseling, mentoring and coaching services for New Local Church Leadership. The New Church Development Committee will provide these basic services as needed.
What Training is Available?
The New Church Development Committee and Cabinet will identify and train clergy and laity for New Local Church leadership who are passionate about starting New Local Churches. The Goal is to train at least three people per year and to hold a minimum of one annual Conference-wide workshop.
What Financial Support is Available?
The New Church Development Committee has developed a six year plan to support New Local Churches. The New Local Church will develop a ministry plan. Funding for program development and partial clergy compensation will be tied to benchmarks and time lines. The plans will be reviewed every six months and funding adjusted as mutually agreed.
