General Conference 2004

Rocky Mountain Conference News and Resources

Day 12

Special General Conference Report for Friday, May 7 from the RMC Delegation

There have been an amazing number of news stories [UMNS] over the last 24 hrs, most related to the church splitting and comments made by persons who are not a part of the General Conference. This morning, the body voted to allow these persons to speak, and explain, from their perspective, what has happened over the last week relating to the Untied Methodist Church and a possible "amicable separation".

After the explanation of how things escalated to the points they did, a resolution was brought to the body. Not by those who sought schism, but by those who desired UNITY. Delegates of every jurisdiction and a central conference brought forth a Resolution on Church Unity.

As United Methodists
we remain in covenant with one another,
even in the midst of disagreement,
and reaffirm our commitment to work together,
		for our common mission
of making disciples of Jesus Christ
		throughout the world.

This resolution passed with over 95% approval of the General Conference. This resolution was and is intended to send a STRONG MESSAGE OF UNITY to our members, and to the world that the United Methodist Church is not separating and we are one as "the people known as Methodists".

In Christ's Service,
Bradley Laurvick
