General Conference 2004

Rocky Mountain Conference News and Resources

Day 10

General Conference Report for Wednesday, May 5 from Sarah Babb, Alternate delegate:

Hello! It is 12:30am Thursday morning and I have just arrived back to the hotel after evening session!

Wednesday morning started out fabulous with a sermon, “S Is for Spirit,” from Bishop Beverly J. Shamana of the San Francisco area that inspired and challenged all present here at General Conference. She proclaimed, “When you love God, you gotta love who God loves.”

Morning legislation included elections for University Senate. Illiff School of Theology (in Denver) President, Dave Maldonado, was elected Chief Executive Officer of the University Senate. Also elected were Socorro Brito de Anda, Rebekah Miles, and L. Gregory Jones.

Igniting Ministries was approved for another four years.

“Living into the Future” was the main topic this evening. It was revised to become the “Connectional Table.” Essentially, General Council On Ministries will be phased out and replaced with a representative “Connectional Table” that will serve as a steward of the vision and resources for mission and ministry, provide fiscal responsibility and establish polices and procedures to carry out the mission of the church.

I would like to thank all of you for letting me serve you by attending this great event. It has been quite an experience on every spectrum from intense legislation debate to silent protests. Thank you for the prayers and support.

Sarah Babb
