Music and Worship Arts Scholarships

The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts offers up to five annual scholarships for students planning careers in church music and/or worship arts. The amount varies but is usually around $1000.  Applications can be downloaded at www.FUMMWA.org; application deadline is March 1 of each year. Details are available, along with information on other scholarships for similar study, on The General Board of Discipleship worship and music website.

Geri Overton Memorial Scholarship

The Wyoming/Northeast Colorado District (WYNECO) is now receiving applications for the Geri Overton Memorial Scholarship, a $500 award. The scholarship is open to any woman associated with the UMC in the WYNECO District who has been out of high school for at least five years and is trying to further her training and/or education for a better life for herself and her family. A personal interview is required. For more information, please contact the church office in Fort Morgan at 970-867-5666. Application deadline is March 1, 2004.

UMCOM Scholarship & Fellowship Opportunities

United Methodist Communications offers three communications scholarship and fellowship opportunities to strengthen the study and practice of religion communications. Applicants must be members of The United Methodist Church. The deadline for all applications is March 15, 2005.

The Judith Wediman Racial-Ethnic Minority Fellowship is awarded to one recent college/seminary graduate each year. The recipient will spend a year being mentored and working as part of a communications staff in an annual conference office in the United States, and will receive a $30,000 salary and benefits.

The Stoody-West Fellowship is a $6,000 award for students in their post-graduate study at an accredited U.S. college or university who intend on pursuing a career in religion journalism. 

The Leonard M. Perryman Communications Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship for undergraduate study in religion journalism/mass communications. Candidates must be racial-ethnic minority students in their junior or senior year to qualify.

The Third Wave Foundation Scholarship Program

The Third Wave Foundation Scholarship Program is available to all full-time or part-time students age 30 and under who are enrolled in, or have been accepted to, an accredited university, college, vocational/technical school or community college. 

The primary criteria to qualify for a Third Wave scholarship is vigorous engagement in ACTIVIST WORK and financial need. The Scholarship Committee prioritizes applicants who have limited access to financial resources and whose civic, community, or cultural work shows a commitment to social justice. 

Within this scholarship grantmaking, the Woodlake Fund provides scholarships for young women of color who prioritize social justice and the work done in the spirit of justice and equality over academic performance, and who integrate social justice into all areas of their lives. Minority ROTC Scholarship Available

The Florida A&M University (FAMU) is soliciting your help in finding qualified minority candidates interested in attending FAMU or one of the other Historically Black College or Universities (Morehouse, Norfolk, Prairie View, Savannah State and Southern) on a Navy ROTC Scholarship. The scholarship is called the Historically Black College Scholarship. The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
1. Must be an African American or Hispanic
2. High School Senior
3. High School GPA 3.0 or better
4. SAT Score 1050 (530 verbal/ 520 math) or
5. ACT Score 22 (22 English/ 22 math) 

If a student meets the above criteria then he/she must mail or fax (850) 561-2517 a copy of their high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores to the Address below:

Recruiting Officer, Florida A&M University, Naval ROTC Unit, PO Box6508, Tallahassee, FL32314-6508.

Once information is received their application will be screened and they will be informed if they will be submitted to Chief of Naval Education and training (CNET) for the scholarship. 

Prior to awarding the scholarship, a qualified applicant must pass a medical exam, paid for by the Navy. The scholarship pays for tuition, fees, books, uniforms, and a monthly stipend of $200.00. In addition if a student attends FAMU on a NROTC Scholarship, the University offers a limited number of ROOM & BOARD scholarships. The end result is that the student attends college on a FULL RIDE!
