Events Bulletin Board
Editor's Note
Some local church events which
are too far away for some to attend are publicized because the
idea might be useful somewhere else in the Conference! I hope these
stimulate
ideas and attendance if you can attend! --
Yours
in ministry,
Ben Roe, BB editor.

Spiritual Renewal Workshop Returns
CALLED BACK TO THE WELL offers
spiritual renewal for clergy and congregations throughout the
Southwest. This program of the Samaritan Counseling Center is funded
primarily
by a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment's Sustaining Pastoral
Excellence initiative. CALLED BACK TO THE WELL helps clergy deepen
their spiritual lives and cultivate healthy relationships through
small prayer/support groups and retreats. An ecumenical prayer/support
group for clergy in Denver and northern Colorado will begin early
this fall.
Retreats are scheduled at the Norbertine Center in
Albuquerque October 23-26, 2006 and January 22-25, and April
23-26, 2007. Retreats
cost $135 per person. Scholarship money is available for CALLED
BACK TO THE WELL programs. Please register soon as groups and
retreats fill up quickly.

Women's Preaching Series Offered in SLC
In celebration of the
50th Anniversary of the Ordination of Women, and for those who
are not able to travel to some of the other events, Cheryl Popple,
extension minister at Women's Center for Spirituality, will be
starting a Women's Preaching Series this fall at First United
Methodist Church in Salt Lake City. The services will be on the
third Saturday
of the month at 5:00 p.m. I would like to invite any women, lay
and ordained, who would like to participate to contact me at
crpopple@comcast.net. The service will be an interfaith service
especially targeting
young, single women as well as those who are interested in hearing
women preachers. Everyone will be welcome to attend---men, women,
and children. The service will be led by women, however.
Highlands Hosts "Old North Denver Community Flea Market
Susie Aikman writes to say that "August 21st and continuing
on the 3rd Monday of September (and maybe October), Highlands UMC
will host a market I believe will be called 'Old North Denver Community
Flea Market.'"
The market will be set up right across the
street from the church and will be open from 10 am to 8 pm. The
church and Alternative Voices (an outreach of Conference Native
American ministries) are co-sponsors. Anyone can come and set up
a booth - a tent-like structure with roof is highly recommended
- to sell whatever. This would be the perfect place for handcrafts,
those childrens' toys that a company usually does with home-parties,
candles, collectibles - whatever. They, of course, do not want
inappropriate items including militaristic toys, etc.
In case you
haven't driven in the area lately, 32nd and Lowell is just a couple
of blocks east and that is a "happenin' place" in Northwest
Denver There are restaurants, bars, trendy clothes shops, the whole
9 yards, and a lot of younger people and families are out walking
in the evenings and go right by the church. All inquiries should
be directed to Susie Aikman, ZSAikman@webtv.net.
Travel With Bishop Brown November 2006
Plan Now for Travel with
Bishop Brown in 2006 Bishop Brown is inviting clergy and laity
in the Denver Area to travel with him on "Paul's Fourth Missionary
Journey" leaving on November 9, 2006. The group will sail
from Anthens to Rome with stops in Corinth, Malta, Naples, Pompeii, and
Sicily by a chartered ship with special lectures on the Life and
Ministry of Paul.
Brochures explaining cost and other details will
be found at the conference office. Questions may be directed to
Kathy and Burl Kreps at 719-637-0258 or kbkreps@msn.com. You may
recall an announcement was made at the last session of Annual Conference
that Bishop Brown plans to have a Denver Area travel project. He
invites the clergy, laity and staff of the two conferences to travel
with him on "Paul's Fourth Missionary Journey" in November
of 2006 with Educational Opportunities (E.O.) Tours. The cruise
ship, Astoria, is chartered exclusively by E. O. for this trip.
Brochures are available for circulation at the Conference Office
and we hope you will make this information available for the pastors
and laity in your district.
E.O. provides a way for pastors who
are Tour Hosts to travel at no cost. We would welcome the opportunity
to share this news with you and others. We would be willing to
meet with clergy cluster groups or share news about this travel
possibility at other district gatherings. If you have any questions
or desire more information please contact us. Yours for meaningful
travel, Kathy and Burl Kreps Directors of Travel Ministry for
