Music and Worship Arts: 2004 Music Conference
Church Music Leaders Gather from Across the Conference " With
Hearts and Hands and Voices"
Saturday, August 7, nearly 60 choir directors, worship
leaders, organists, and other church music leaders gathered at
St. Luke’s
UMC in Highlands Ranch, Colorado for worship, fellowship, and
learning. “With Hearts and Hands and Voices,” the
first such RMC-sponsored musicians’ event in at least ten
years, was co-sponsored by St. Luke’s and Cokesbury Music
Service. Keynote speaker Jorge Lockward, director of the New
York-based ensemble Cántico Nuevo and former Coordinator
of the Global Praise Program at General Board of Global Ministries,
offered a keynote presentation on Ethical Considerations for
Worship Planning. Following the energetic presentation and experience
of global music, participants took part in a fast-paced music
reading session before heading off to the first of three workshop
periods. Workshop topics ranged from “Creative Worship
Planning in the 21st Century” to “Everything You
Need to Know about Handbells” to “Is This Thing On?
Effective Use of Technology in Worship.” The afternoon
closed with a lively worship service on the theme of World Communion
Sunday, incorporating diverse tunes from The Faith We Sing and
Global Praise 3 into a traditional liturgy. - Kerry Greenhill, Communications & Events Intern, Rocky Mountain
