 SUMMER Retreat
Residency in Ministry
2005
for probationary members of the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference
of the United Methodist Church
Aug. 1st to 3rd, 2005 at

Templed
Hills Retreat Center
Woodland Park, CO
The 2005 Summer Retreat will focus on the characteristics
of healthy spiritual leadership. The event will have a combination
of worship, activities and presentations,
small and large group sharing, free time, and singing,
that will enhance the collegial spirit
and insight helpful for spiritual leadership in present and
future settings as clergy. Our hope is that you will return to
your ministries with more understanding and connection to your
peers and
thus, build a spirit of support and collegiality necessary
in ministering to those in your care.
Please bring United Methodist Hymnal and
Bible and snacks to share. Since you will be planning the final
worship service together, you may want to bring some of your
favorite
worship
materials.

Retreat Leadership
Your retreat leader will be Rev. Bill Selby, creator of the
Center for Pastoral Effectiveness of the Rockies and the Center’s
Mentor. Bill’s background includes
engineering, education, and pastoral ministry and has been a
follower of Family Systems work since the seventies.
Ordained
in the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church
in
1974,
he served a small country church and then a county seat church
before becoming a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference (UMC)
in 1983 when appointed to First UMC in Casper, WY. His last church
appointment was a new church “restart”, St. Luke’s
UMC in Highlands Ranch, Colorado in 1987. It was there that he
came to integrate most fully “Family Systems” in
his ministry as he sought to grow a church while dealing with
heavy financial debt, economic downturns, and church families
under great stress. In 1995, he left his love, church pastoral
ministry, with a vision to create an Extension Ministry of and
for the church which became known as Growth With Integrity Resources.
The goal of this ministry was to provide the needed resources
for clergy and churches to address the changing paradigms and
expectations of both members and society while retaining integrity
in their ministry. The Center for Pastoral Effectiveness of the
Rockies is the most vital resource created by Growth With Integrity
Resources. Bill spent four years in intensive study and planning
to develop the Center. After three successful years and over
100 clergy alumni in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska, The Center
for Pastoral Effectiveness of the Rockies became it’s own
non-profit corporation with the goal to expand its availability
to clergy and religious leaders of all denominations and throughout
the western United States.
Bill is from a small town, Orion,
Illinios and married to the girl across the street, Sherilee.
They celebrated their 38th anniversary and have a unique “family” they
cherish.
With you throughout
the RIM seminar will be the Summer RIM planning team Rev. Debbie
Hull and Ben Roe (participant Rev. Emily Earnshaw Neely has
served until the event itself.)
Special Note:
Please note the question on your registration form asking you for
questions or issues you may face in your own ministry setting
that you would appreciate hearing about sometime during the
event.
