The Connectional Giving Presentation is Coming
To the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference
Have you ever wondered how the United Methodist Church spends the money you
send to and through the Rocky Mountain conference office? Are you curious about
where your apportionment, or in the Rocky Mountain Conference case, your Tithe
+ one or "mission" dollars go? Well have we got a deal for you! Here
is your chance to learn how your giving supports ministries of the United Methodist
church through out the world, ministries that “Advance,” the realm
of God, and ministries funded by the six special offering taken each year.
Ken Sloane, the director of the Communications Ministry Group, United Methodist
Communications, will be traveling throughout the Rocky Mountain Conference
telling the story of the worldwide work and ministry of the people of the United
Methodist Church. It is easy to forget that as United Methodists we do not
just serve the people in our local communities, but we are a connected, global
church. Everyday our connectional ministry serves millions of people through
out the world. Through our cooperative ministries in the United States and
around the world we change peoples lives by helping to make them better. Ken
is joining us to tell us“OUR” story.
His presentation will be a little less than two hours in length. Highlights
include:
- Understanding how the mission of the United Methodist Church is being
accomplished throughout the world.
- Learning about the four new focus areas
of the church for the next quadrennium.
- Information about how we are
organized as the United Methodist Church
- Understanding the General Church
Budget, where our apportionments come from and how are they spent.
- Interesting
facts about what percentage of all local church funds go to support General
and Annual Conference ministries.
- Information about the six special Sunday
offerings and the Advance.
- A discussion about First and Second mile giving
- A brief introduction to the
new Igniting Ministries Campaign
- And some brief information about our
conference “tithe + Mission” plan
and how it supports General Church Apportionments.
Ken provided the same presentation to the people of the Yellowstone Conference
and both lay and clergy found it to be very helpful. Also I know you will enjoy
meeting Ken, and he is looking forward to meeting each one of you and will
try to answer any of the questions you always wanted to ask an executive from
the General Church.
Check for the time and day when Ken Sloane
and the Connectional Giving Presentation will be in your area and plan to
attend. Pray for Ken as he discovers how geographically
large the Rocky Mountain Conference is.
Pastors invite as many lay persons as you wish. Lay leaders invite your pastor
to attend with you. More information will coming out soon from your district
offices.
If you have further questions call your district office or either Skip Strickland
(Director of Mission Ministry) 303-389-9456 or Nancy Butterfield 303-389-9460.
